Karen married Hans Johnsen Lier, son of John Pedersen and Helene Christensdatter Haugen, on 22 Apr 1852 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.1 (Hans Johnsen Lier was born on 8 Mar 1830 in Haugen, Askim, Østfold, Norway, christened on 14 Mar 1830 in Askim, Østfold, Norway, died on 25 Apr 1905 in Askim, Østfold, Norway and was buried on 5 May 1905.)


  Marriage Notes:

When they married Hans was 22 years old and from the Hougen farm in Askim. His father was Jon Pedersen. Karen Johanne was 21¼ years old and from the Eeg farm. Her father was Anders Jonsen. The best men at the marriage were Hans nordre Lier and Anders Solberg.

In May 1852 when their son Johan was born they were called Hans Jonsen og Karen Johanne Andersdr Eeg.

When her father died in 1855 Karen Johanne and Hans took over his farm, Østre Eek, in Askim for 1650 spdlr. Two years later they sold it for 1850 spdlr.

Hans J. and Karen lived on Nordre Lier.

Hans Jonsen bought the Lier Nordre farm in Askim on 29 September 1858 for 2700 spdlr. When Hans died Karen and her children of age sold the Lier Nordre farm for 11 029 kr.

In the 1865 census they owned and farmed part (31a1) of the Lier nordre farm. They were both 36 years old. They had their four daughters and two sons with them: Maren O. (12), Anton (11), Anne H. (10), Thorvald (6), Caroline (3), and unnamed daughter (1).

In the census for 1900 they owned and farmed the Lier (gnr.21, bnr.1) farm. They had two daughters and two sons with them, all unmarried: Maren, Anton, Anne, and Julius. Their daughter's son, Anders Karilsen (born 1889 in Askim), was also there. 1 4 7
