He was the oldest of his brothers.
In 1748 Sjøfar owned a part of the Hobøl farm in Askim. The other part was owned by his brother-in-law, Hans Knudsen. Together they sold the farm in January 1751. Sjøfar held onto the Teigen portion until he sold it in July 1764.
Sjøfar married Johanne Knudsdatter Hobøl, daughter of Knud Larsen Hobøl and Marthe Larsdatter Berger Vestre, on 9 Mar 1740 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.1
