  General Notes:

Markus Andersen farmed the Kjellås farm in Askim ca. 1885-89. He then moved to the Tovengen farm and sold Kjellås to Hans Torersen from Svingen for 6300 kr.

In 1891 Markus Andersen bought the nedre Tovengen farm for 9750 kr. Markus had previously been a blacksmith in Romsåsen. He also worked as clock-maker, and had for a while been a machinist on the steamship "Krabben", that travelled on the river Glomma between Sarpsborg and Lindhol in Eidsberg.

  Research Notes:

In the census for 1865 he was 26 years old. He was then a blacksmith for hire and living on the Dramstad farm in Trøgstad.

His marriage record indicates that he was from Kirkebye in Baastad, Trøgstad. ⁶

Markus married Karen Oline Andreasdatter Kykkelsrud, daughter of Andreas Hansen Jaeren and Johanne Pedersdatter Risengen, on 14 Jun 1873 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.¹ (Karen Oline Andreasdatter Kykkelsrud was born on 11 Aug 1841 in østre Jaeren, Askim, Østfold, Norway, christened on 22 Aug 1841 in Askim, Østfold, Norway and died in 1941.)

  Marriage Notes:

In the census for 1900 they owned and farmed the Toengen (bnr. 2) farm in Askim. Their daughter Gunhild was unmarried and was living with them. Living on the farm also were widow Johannes Olsen (born 1834 in Askim) who helped on the farm, and 4 canal workers. ⁷
