Gunder was from Eidsberg.

In 1853 Gunder bought the nordre Gurud farm in Askim for 800 spdl from Lars Paulsen. In the beginning of the 1860's he sold the farm to Hans Iversen.

Gunder Jensen is named as a farmer on the nedre Oraug farm in 1871-72.

Gunder married Inger Marie Halvorsdatter. (Inger Marie Halvorsdatter was born circa 1818, died on 24 Sep 1853 in Askim, Østfold, Norway and was buried on 1 Oct 1853.)

The source states that Gunder Jensen and Inger Marie Halvorsdatter lived on the nordre Torp farm in Askim in 1866, and that they had a son Hans who was born in 1851 on Halstvet in Eidsberg. However it is also stated that Inger Marie died in 1853.

The Digitalarkivet of 1865 for Askim shows a Hans Gundersen, 15 years old, as a fosterson living on Torp. [It also shows an Inger M. Johansdatter, a 21 year old maidservant.] ^{6 7 8}

Gunder next married Johanne Sypriansdatter Tovengen, daughter of Syprian Brynhildsen Tovengen and Berte Mattisdatter, on 24 Jan 1855 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.¹ (Johanne Sypriansdatter Tovengen was born in 1830 in Trøgstad, Østfold, Norway,⁴ died on 17 Jun 1870 in Gudim, Askim, Østfold, Norway and was buried on 25 Jun 1870.)

  Marriage Notes:

When they married Gunder was a 29½ year old widower and Johanne was 24½. He was from the Halstvedt farm in Askim and she was from the Aarstad farm in Trøgstad. His father was Jens Andersen and hers was Syprian Brynildsen. The best men at their marriage were Hans and Nicolai Tovengen.

The census for 1865 shows them as cottagers with land on the Tovengen farm in Askim. It also shows their children:
Martin Gundersen, 10 years old;
Johan Henr. Gundersen, 9 years old;
Sigvard Gundersen, 5 years old; and,
Julius Gundersen, also 5 years old. ^{1 8}
