When they married Mathis was 32 years old and Johanne was 29. He was from the Moen farm and his father was Anders Simensen. Her father was Even Andersen. The best men at their marriage were Christen Moen and Johan Holen.

Mattias and Johanne were living on the nordre Torp farm in Askim when their daughter Alette was born. ¹
