When they married Johan and Helene were both 30½ years old. He was from the Moen farm in Askim and she was from the Halstvedt farm. His father was Anders Simensen and her father was Andreas Andersen. The best men at their marriage were Thord Revoug and Johan Halstvedt.

In the 1865 census they owned and farmed one (90a1) of the Moen farms in Askim. They were both 43 years old. They had their two children with them and a servant, 21 year old Oline Johannesdatter. 1 4
