  General Notes:

In 1853 Karl married Elen and in the same year he bought the Frosterud farm in Askim for 800 spdl. It was originally conveyed to him shortly after his father's death, when Karl was 18 years old. His mother had died previously. Tor Jensen, his future father-in-law, was his trustee/guardian at that time.

He was 42 years old in the census for 1865.


Karl married Elen Torsdatter Ilen, daughter of Tor Jensen Ihlen and Ragnhild Gøtesdatter Skavogg, on 23 Apr 1853 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.1 (Elen Torsdatter Ilen was born on 29 Jul 1831 in Søndre Ihlen, Askim, Østfold, Norway, christened on 7 Aug 1831 in Askim, Østfold, Norway and died in 1902.)


  Marriage Notes:

When they married Carl was 28¼ years old and from the Frosterud farm in Askim. His father was Gunder Poulsen. Elen was 21¾ and from the Ihlen farm. Her father was Thord Jensen.

In the 1865 census they owned and farmed the Frosterud farm in Askim. Carl was 42 and Elen was 37 years old. They had their five surviving children with them: Gunder (12), Hans Peter (11), Johannes (7), Thorvald (5), and Oline (1). 1 3
