In 1961 Thorvald took over the nedre Salseng farm in Askim after his father (or after his mother's mother). Thorvald had bought the Halstvet farm (gnr. 31, bnr. 1 & 2) in Eidsberg in 1960.

It is also recorded that he took over nedre Salseng after his parents on 01.01.1976. 4

• He was a tenant farmer [forpakter] in 1958.
Thorvald married Nora Bredesen, daughter of Thorbjørn Bredesen and Helfrid Fossum, on 4 Oct 1958 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.1 (Nora Bredesen was born in 1937 in Kullebunn, Skiptvet, Østfold, Norway.)
