  General Notes:

Simen was the son of landowner [proprietær] Ole Smith of Flakstad in Rakkestad.

Simen was a blacksmith and lived on the Smedby farm under Nordre Rud in Askim.

He was on the søndre Odalen farm from 1848 until 1855. He bought it in 1853 for 800 spdlr. from Peder Amundsen Lier and sold it two years later to Christian Larsen Holterengen for 1000 spdlr. Later he was on Skremma under Sneis in Ås where he also worked as a blacksmith.

Simen next married Anne Kristensdatter, daughter of Kristen Johannesen and Karen Jensdatter Gram, on 23 Feb 1848 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.¹ (Anne Kristensdatter was born on 24 Mar 1824 in Gjellestad, Askim, Østfold, Norway, christened on 28 Mar 1824 in Askim church, Askim, Østfold, Norway and died in 1901.)

When they married Simen was 35 years old and from Eidsberg. He was born in Rakkestad. Anne was 24 years old and from Gjellestad plads in Askim. Their best men were Ove Smith and Anders Hoel.

In the census for 1865 Simen and Anne owned and farmed the Skræmma farm in Aas, Akershus. They had 2 daughters and 4 sons with them: Ovidia (17), Karen (14), Ove Ramuel (12), Torvald (10), Karl (6), and Ramuel (4). ^{1 4}
