   Other names for Lars were Lars Mathisen and Lars Mathiesen Steenbøll.

  General Notes:

Lars took over bruk 2 of the Stenbøl farm in Askim from his father in 1787 for 300 rdl. He bought bruk 1 in 1795 from his brother Anders for 599 rdl.

Lars farmed the entire Stenbøl farm until 1801. Then, in 1803 when he was about 38 years old, he moved to the Huset (under Slengebråte) farm in Askim.

Lars married Maria Mattiasdatter, daughter of Mattias Helgesen Rom and Anne Knutsdatter, on 11 Jan 1787 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.¹ (Maria Mattiasdatter was born in 1749 and died on 22 Feb 1789 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.)

  Marriage Notes:

When they married they were recorded as Lars Mathisen Jahren og Maria Mathisdatter S. Løchen. ¹

Lars next married Mari Pettersdatter after 1789. (Mari Pettersdatter was born circa 1761, died on 13 Mar 1853 in Huset, Askim, Østfold, Norway and was buried on 19 Mar 1853.)

  Marriage Notes:

In 1801 the family was on the Stenbøl farm. Lars was 37 and in his second marriage. Mari was 36 and in her first marriage. Their three surviving children were with them. ⁴
