Hans Larsen took over the søndre Nygård farm in Askim in 1857. There was no known cottager on the farm before him. He got the deed to the farm in 1889. He sold it in 1912 to Ole Moseby for 4500 kr.

Hans married Elen Johannesdatter, daughter of Johannes Iversen and Helene Einarsdatter, on 17 Jul 1856 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.¹ (Elen Johannesdatter was born on 18 May 1830 in Netthaug, Askim, Østfold, Norway, christened on 23 May 1830 in Askim, Østfold, Norway, died on 20 Oct 1877 in Nygaard under Løken søndre, Askim, Østfold, Norway and was buried on 27 Oct 1877.)

  Marriage Notes:

Hans and Elen were both 26 years old when they married. The best men at their marriage were Iver and Poul Løken.

In the 1865 census they were cottagers with land on one of the Nygaard farms in Askim. They were both 36 years old. They had a daughter and three sons with them: Karine (10), Iver (7), Johan (4), and Andreas (1).

In the census for 1900 Hans was a widow on the Nygård (gnr.54, bnr.12) farm in Askim. He was a farmer and carpenter. Only Karine Hansdatter, his unmarried daughter, was with him. ^{1 6 7}
