In the census for 1900 they owned and farmed the Fossum farm in Askim. Martin's brothers Thorvald and Olaves were on the farm as well as his widowed mother. There was also a servant girl, Berta Marie Kristiansdatter, born in 1884 in Askim.

There were no children listed with them.

They were living on Fossum when their daughter Signe Marie was christened in 1904. They were living there in October 1916. ^{3 4}
