When they married in October 1853 Christian was 31 years old and Sophie was 23. It was the first marriage for both. He was from Eidsberg and she was from the Bakker farm in Trøgstad. His father was Ingebret Christensen and hers was Ole Pedersen.

In 1865 they owned and farmed the Lunder farm in Askim. Christen was 44 and Sophia was 36 years old. They had their four eldest children with them: Anne (11), Hans (7), Ole (5), and Johan (1). ^{1 3}
