Iver continued after his father as a cottager on Knebrett in Askim from the beginning of the 1890's. In about 1909 Iver bought the farm for 3700 kr.


Ivar married Katarina Johannesen on 11 Sep 1896 in Askim church, Askim, Østfold, Norway.1 (Katarina Johannesen was born on 17 Nov 1873 in Vermeland, Sweden and died in 1920.)

They also had a stillborn daughter in 1902.

In the census for 1900 they were living on the Knebrøt farm in Askim, working on the farm. They had a fosterson with them, Birger Hoel, born in 1892 in Kristiania. 4
