In 1776 Gudmund bought Bruk 1 of the southern portion of the nedre Gurud farm in Askim from his stepfather for 100 rdl. In 1798 he moved his family to the Nord-Skjolden farm, probably to the Fåtibakke farm.

  Research Notes:

There is a burial record for a Gudmund Johnsen of 29 Jul 1804. He died on Nordlie in Askim at the age of 53 years. This is possibly the same as Gudmund Jonsen. 5

• He was a schoolkeeper [skoleholder] in 1801 in nordre Skjolden, Askim, Østfold, Norway.


Gudmund married Johanne Torersdatter Mørkved on 27 Oct 1785 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.1 (Johanne Torersdatter Mørkved was born circa 1756.)


  Marriage Notes:

When they married they were recorded as Gudmund Johnsen Guru og Johanne Thorersdatter Mørchvedt.

In 1801 they were on the Nord-Skjolden farm in Askim. Gudmund was 50 and in his first marriage. Johanne was 45 and in her second. They had just two children with them then, Anne (9) and Inger (6). Their first two children, Tore and Jon, were not there. 1 6
