After her husband died, Berte stayed on her half of the Tovengen farm in Askim until 1861, when she sold it for 1705 spdl. to her son-in-law Anders Gundersen.

In the census for 1865 Berte Mathiesdatter was 74 years old, widowed, and living with her daughter Gunhild M and son-in-law Anders Gundersen on part (154a2) of the Tovengen farm in Askim. She was pensioned.

Her year of birth is also recorded as 1795. She was 8 years old in the census for 1801. She was 74 years old in the census for 1865. Her year of birth was recorded as 1793 when she died.

Berte married Syprian Brynhildsen Tovengen, son of Brynil Nilsen and Gunil Hansdatter. (Syprian Brynhildsen Tovengen was born in 1792, died on 11 Feb 1846 in Tovengen, Askim, Østfold, Norway and was buried on 20 Feb 1846 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.)
