Martin bought the Vesterby farm in Askim in 1902 for 2700 kr. In 1915 Martin bought the Lille Rom portion of the søndre Rom farm and farmed there. He turned over Vesterby to his brother, Karl Andreassen Granrud.

Martin married Inger Marie Eriksdatter, daughter of Erik Hansen and Unknown, on 30 Apr 1889 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.1 (Inger Marie Eriksdatter was born on 24 Aug 1859 in Hobøl, Østfold, Norway and died in 1940.)


  Marriage Notes:

Martin was born on a Hoffs plads farm in Askim and Inger was born in Tomter sogn.

Their children died young.

In the census for 1900 they were on the Aastorp farm in Askim. They had a shoemaking business and Inger's son Kristian was an apprentice to his stepfather. A journeyman shoemaker, Gustav Aasberg from Sweden, was also there. There were also five canal workers living on the farm. 1 5
