In 1863 Halvor bought the søndre Hon farm in Askim from his sister's husband, Anders Eriksen. For a while he previously farmed his father-in-law's farm, ytre Torp.

Halvor sold søndre Hon in 1888 for 10 000 kr. He moved to Høitorp in Eidsberg and later took over the Trosvik farm in Skiptvedt.

Halvor married Helene Torersdatter, daughter of Torer Larsen Dallerud and Johanne Halvorsdatter, on 16 Nov 1858 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.¹ (Helene Torersdatter was born on 8 Apr 1834 in Gurud, Askim, Østfold, Norway, christened on 20 Apr 1834 in Askim, Østfold, Norway, died on 14 Sep 1868 in Hon, Askim, Østfold, Norway and was buried on 25 Sep 1868.)

  Marriage Notes:

When they married Halvor was 32 years old and Helene was 27. He was on the Moen farm in Askim, previously from the Halstvedt farm. She was on the Thorp ytre farm in Askim, previously from the Gurud farm. The best men at their marriage were Johan Moen and Gunder Halstvedt.

In the 1865 census they are shown as owning and farming part of the Hoen farm in Askim. Halvor was 40 years old and Helene Thorersdatter was 32. They had their three children with them. ^{1 6}

Halvor next married Andrine Mattisdatter, daughter of Matis Olsen and Unknown, on 12 Mar 1870 in Askim church, Askim, Østfold, Norway.¹ (Andrine Mattisdatter was born on 23 Feb 1848 in Rakkestad, Østfold, Norway.)

  Marriage Notes:

In the census for 1900 Halvor and Andrine owned and farmed the Trosvik farm in Skiptvet. They had five children with them: Gunda, Anders, Anna, Johannes, and Helga Agnes. Andrine's widowed father and Halvor's older sister Marte were also living with them. ⁷
