When they married Christen was 30½ years old and was from the Torp farm in Trøgstad. Anne Maria was 26½ and from the Haraldstad farm in Askim. Christen's father was Lars Larsen. Their best men were Anders Hoel and Holm Erengen.

In the census for 1865 Christen and Anne M. owned and farmed the Torp søndre (nordre Deel) farm in Trøgstad. He was 49 years old and she was 46. They had 3 daughters and a son with them. Christen's 69 year old widowed mother was also on the farm. ^{1 3}
