Thorer was from Trøgstad. In 1798 he bought the Mørkved Lille farm in Askim for 799 rdl.

He was 38 in the 1801 census; his wife was 41, and his sons Halvor and Ingemund were 6 and 3 years old.

Thorer married Christine Halvorsdatter. (Christine Halvorsdatter was born circa 1761, died on 15 Apr 1817 in Mørkvedt lille, Askim, Østfold, Norway and was buried on 20 Apr 1817.)
