Povel married Ingeborg Fredriksdatter, daughter of Fredrik Jensen and Anne Andersdatter, on 28 Dec 1781 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.¹ (Ingeborg Fredriksdatter was born in 1760 in Mellom-Skjolden, Askim, Østfold, Norway.)

When they married they were recorded as Povel Bergersen n. Schiolden og Ingebor Friderichsdatter m. Schiolden.

Paul and Ingeborg lived on the Finnsrud farm until about 1790.

They were recorded as Povel Borgersen og Ingebor Frideriksdatter Cateralens in 1790 when their daughter Anniken was baptised.

In the census for 1801 they were cottagers with land on the Qvisler farm in Skiptvet. They were both in their first marriage and had four children with them: Frederik, 13 years old; Inger, 7; Berthe, 5; and Marie, 1. Their daughter Anikken was not with them. Anikken was then a fosterdaughter of Johannes Bergersen and Johanne Mathiedatter who lived on the Svinningen farm in Spydeberg. Johannes was possibly Paul's brother. ^{1 4 5 6}
