Karl married Tea Olsdatter Grøttvet, daughter of Ole Hansen Grøttvet and Anne Kristensdatter, on 1 Nov 1853 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.¹ (Tea Olsdatter Grøttvet was born in 1835 in Askim, Østfold, Norway, christened on 1 Mar 1835, died on 16 Jan 1867 in Gurud, Askim, Østfold, Norway and was buried on 29 Jan 1867.)

  Marriage Notes:

When they married Carl was 30¾ years old and Thea was 18 2/3 years old. The best men at the marriage were Tollef Grøtvedt and Peder Narvestad.

In 1865 they owned and farmed part (134c) of the Gurud farm in Askim. Carl was 43 and Thea was 31 years old. Their four children were with them. ^{1 5}
