  General Notes:

Johan bought the Børregården farm from his father's brother in 1872. In 1875 he sold it and in 1879 he moved to Kristiania.

In the census for 1900 Johan was a widower living at Glængs Gade in Sarpsborg. He had his son Aksel with him and a housekeeper, Lovise Johannesen, who was born in Spydeberg in 1875. ⁴

In the census for 1865 he was 19 years old and working as a servant for his father's father, Lars Gundersen, on the Katralen farm in Askim. His parents and siblings were living in Trøgstad at the time. ⁵

Johan married Johanne Karlsdatter Skjolden, daughter of Karl Jørgensen Skjolden and Tore Maria Kristiansdatter Svinekle. (Johanne Karlsdatter Skjolden was born on 29 May 1852 in Mørkved, Askim, Østfold, Norway, christened on 20 Jun 1852 in Askim, Østfold, Norway and died in 1886.)
