Fredrik and his brother Oskar began a cabinetmaking and furniture business, Brødrene Skjolden, near Askim station.

In the census for 1900 he was unmarried and living on the Finstad farm in Askim, working as a master cabinetmaker with his brother Oskar.

His marriage record indicates that he was born in Askim.

• He was a master-joiner [snedkermester] in 1900 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.

Fredrik married Marie Edvardsdatter Rom, daughter of Edvard Kristiansen Rom and Maren Hansdatter Rom, on 26 Oct 1902 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.¹ (Marie Edvardsdatter Rom was born on 23 Jun 1875 in Askim, Østfold, Norway and died in 1955.)

the 1900 census shows both Fredrik O Skjolden and Marie E Rom on the Finstad farm in Askim with about 18 others. Both were unmarried at that time. ³
