Karl married Karen Kristensdatter Rud, daughter of Kristen Olsen Rud and Johanne Jonsdatter Kråkerud, on 4 Nov 1871 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.¹ (Karen Kristensdatter Rud was born on 2 Apr 1838 in øvre Rud, Askim, Østfold, Norway, christened on 16 Apr 1838 in Askim, Østfold, Norway, died on 13 Dec 1912 in Rom søndre, Askim, Østfold, Norway and was buried on 28 Dec 1912.)

  Marriage Notes:

Carl and Karen helped Carl's father, Anders Olsen, farm Boslet Vestre in Askim before Anders died. After Anders died, Carl and Karen continued to farm Boslet for 10 more years, but in April 1884 the farm was sold to Mathis Andersen Boslet Østre for 7200 kr. Carl and Karen moved to the Rom farm where they lived until they died.

In the census for 1900 they owned and farmed the Rom (bnr.1) farm. Their three children were with them, all unmarried: Karoline, Anton and Thorvald. Karl's older brother Kristian lived with them, doing a little farmwork. There were also 8 canal workers living there. ⁷
