In the early 1820's he lived on the nordre Rom farm. Kristen leased the Kjellegård farm from the mid 1820's through the 1830's. Later he went to the Onstad farm where the youngest children were confirmed in 1851 and 1852.

The census of 1865 shows him as 75 years old.

Kristen married Maria Olsdatter Sundgården, daughter of Ole Olsen and Kristine Knutsdatter Sundgården, on 8 Feb 1821 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.¹ (Maria Olsdatter Sundgården was born circa 1792 and died in 1830.)

  Marriage Notes:

Christen was 26 years old when he married 28 year old Maria. ¹

Kristen next married Tore Amundsdatter Ilen, daughter of Amund Olsen Ilen and Sissel Eriksdatter, after 1830. (Tore Amundsdatter Ilen was born in 1799 in Baastad, Trøgstad, Østfold, Norway.)

  Marriage Notes:

They were recorded as Christen Gulbrandsen og Thore Amundsdatter Onstad when their son Carl was confirmed in September 1851.

In the 1865 census they leased the Sand farm in Askim. Christen was 75 and Thore was 72 years old. With them were their daughter Maria, their son Andreas, and a fosterson Mathis Carlsen, 6 years old and born in Askim. ^{3 4}
