  General Notes:

Hans was from the Gudim farm in Askim. He was farmer of Torp in 1864 when his daughter Maren was born. In 1865 he was cottager on Bjørklund u. Nord-Skjørten. From 1865 to 1880 he leased the Gjellestad farm.

• He was a cabinet maker apprentice [Snedkersvend] in 1900 in Kristiania, Norway.

Hans married Johanne Gundersdatter Gjellestad, daughter of Gunder Kristensen Gjellestad and Ragnhild Torersdatter Henstad, on 28 Sep 1852 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.¹ (Johanne Gundersdatter Gjellestad was born on 24 Sep 1827 in Gjellestad, Askim, Østfold, Norway and was christened on 7 Oct 1827 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.)

  Marriage Notes:

When they married Hans was 23 years old and Johanne was 24¾. He was from the Gudim øvre farm in Askim and she was from the Gjellestad farm. The best men at the marriage were Hans Henstad and Andreas Eeg.

In the census for 1865 Hans and Johanne were cottagers with land on the Skjørten nordre / Torp farm in Askim. He was 37 years old and she was 39. They had their first 4 daughters and their son with them.

In the census for 1900 Hans and Johanne were living at Tøiengaden 38 in Kristiania with their youngest child, Hanna Julie. ^{1 5 7}
