Johannes was from the nordre Rud farm in Askim. He took over the Massenghytta farm and was a tenant farmer there until the early 1860's. Later we find the family on Byfram u. Ilen, on Honshytta, and on Sekkelstenhytta.

He was 48 years old when he died.

Johannes married Ragnhild Olsdatter Auten, daughter of Ole Iversen Auten and Maria Larsdatter, on 6 Apr 1854 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.¹ (Ragnhild Olsdatter Auten was born on 1 Dec 1827 in Auten, Askim, Østfold, Norway, christened on 9 Dec 1827 in Askim, Østfold, Norway, died on 31 Dec 1900 in Auten, Askim, Østfold, Norway and was buried on 9 Jan 1901.)

  Marriage Notes:

When they married Johannes was 37 years old and from the nordre Ruud farm in Askim. His father was Knud Christensen. Ragnild was 26 and from the Auten farm in Askim. Her father was Ole Iversen. The best men at their marriage were Hans Toverud and Anders Galtebu.

When their son Johan was christened in May 1858 they were recorded as Johannes Knudsen og Ragnild Olsdr Maseng pl. ¹
