In the census for 1900 Karen owned the Berg farm in Askim. She was a widow and lived with her widowed daughter Sofie. There were two out-of-town lodgers on the farm as well, working for an electrical firm. ⁵

Karen married Torer Svendsen Svingen, son of Sven Larsen and Kirsti Kristensdatter, on 28 Dec 1848 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.¹ (Torer Svendsen Svingen was born in 1824 in Melkeberg, Spydeberg, Østfold, Norway, died on 23 Dec 1897 in Berg, Askim, Østfold, Norway and was buried on 6 Jan 1898.)

  Marriage Notes:

When they married Thorer was 24 years old and from the Melkeberg farm in Spydeberg. His father was Svend Larsen. Karen was 24 2/3 years old and from the Svinhegle farm in Askim. Their best men were Poul Galtebo and Hans nedre Ruud.
