Other names for Karen were Karen Christiansdatter and Karen Kristiansen. General Notes: In the census for 1900 Karen owned the Berg farm in Askim. She was a widow and lived with her widowed daughter Sofie. There were two out-of-town lodgers on the farm as well, working for an electrical firm. 5 Karen married Torer Svendsen Svingen, son of Sven Larsen and Kirsti Kristensdatter, on 28 Dec 1848 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.1 (Torer Svendsen Svingen was born in 1824 in Melkeberg, Spydeberg, Østfold, Norway, died on 23 Dec 1897 in Berg, Askim, Østfold, Norway and was buried on 6 Jan 1898.) Marriage Notes: When they married Thorer was 24 years old and from the Melkeberg farm in Spydeberg. His father was Svend Larsen. Karen was 24 2/3 years old and from the Svinhegle farm in Askim. Their best men were Poul Galtebo and Hans nedre Ruud. |
