   Another name for Thorvald was Torvald Kristensen.

  General Notes:

In 1885 Thorvald took over the Magnhildrud u. Nordre Løken farm in Askim for 6400 kr. He was in America from 1890 until 1897. In 1898 he sold Magnhildrud for 7800 kr. and bought the søndre Auten farm for 10 000 kr.

Tone Authen notes:
"My grandmother's father bought Søndre Authen when they returned from Chicago in 1897. My father also informed me of a possible mistake in the Gårdshistorie book. It says that Tillas father had the farm Magnhildrud in Askim before he went to the States. My father has never heard of that from his mother."

His year of birth is also recorded as 1869.

The census for 1900 records his birth as 1869 in Eidsberg.

Thorvald married Thea Karoline Kristensdatter, daughter of Kristian Hansen Brødremoen and Inger Kristine Johansdatter Tømmerås. (Thea Karoline Kristensdatter was born in 1864 in Eidsberg, Østfold, Norway ³ and died in 1933.)

The family was living on the Auten farm in Askim in October 1912.

"Tillas parents were engaged when her father first emigrated. He probably wanted to find out how life in the States would be before he asked his fiancé to come. She followed later, the same year, without knowing what she would meet and without understanding the language. They were brave. I have their engagement ring - a gift from Farmor - and from time to time think of this young woman, with the ring on her finger, on the ship to the new land." ^{2 4}
