In 1801 they were tenant farmers on the Skulerud farm in Eidsberg. They were both in their first marriage and had four children with them: John (11 years old), Ragnild (9), Erich (5), and Christian (2). Johannes Evensen was 46 years old and Dorothe Johnsdatter was 33.

Johannes and Dorothe farmed half the Skulerud farm. Ole Evensen and Christine Aslachsdatter farmed the other half. Johannes and Ole were probably brothers. There were many others on the farm including: Anna Evensdatter (Ole's sister) - 38 years old, Christen Evensen - 37 years old, Kirstine Evensdatter - 33, and Mari Evensdatter (Kirstine's sister) - 40.
