In the 1865 census they owned and farmed part (135a) of the Kvakkestad farm in Askim. With them they had their three sons, five daughters, a servant, a lodger, and Syver's 73 year old widowed mother.

In January 1866, when their daughter Maren Sophie was baptised, they were called Syver Pousen og Marthe Marie Thoresdr Qvakkestad. ^{1 4}
