The Bygdebok records that they had two daughters, Helga Halvorsen and Caroline Randine. The census of 1865, however, shows a third daughter, Josephine, born before Helga. Halvor and Berthe owned and farmed one (18a1) of the Solberg farms in 1865. Besides their two daughters, Caroline and Josephine, they had a servant on the farm: Helene Hansdatter, 23 years old from Trøgstad. Was Helene possibly Berthe's sister?
