Rustad ble solgt (ca 1902) ved tvangsauksjon til Johannes Mattisen, som var høvelmester ved Kykkelsrud. Ved århundreskiftet bodde han på øvre Rud bnr. 2, som Kykkelsrud overtok etter Nikkelverket i 1889.

  Research Notes:

He was very probably the son of Mathias Holmsen and Marie Svendsdatter from Trostebæk u. Gudim nedre in Askim. He appears to have be raised by a fostermother, his mother's sister Anna Svendsdatter on a neighbouring farm, Gudim nedre. 6 7

  Noted events in his life were:

• He was a master planer [Høvelmester] in 1900 in Kykkelsrud Høvleri, Askim, Østfold, Norway.


Johannes married Hanna Paulsdatter Brønn, daughter of Paul Hansen Brønn and Anne Kristiansdatter Svinekle, on 22 Jun 1885 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.1 (Hanna Paulsdatter Brønn was born on 7 Dec 1858 in Enger, Askim, Østfold, Norway and was christened on 26 Dec 1858 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.)


  Marriage Notes:

They were living on the Grønli farm when their son Mathis was baptised in November 1886.

In the census for 1900 they lived on the Ruud øvre (bnr.2) farm in Askim. They had their four children with them: Mathis, Peter, Marie, and Artur. There were also 7 canal workers living on the farm. 8
