In the 1865 census they were married and owned and farmed part (49a2) of the Olberg farm in Askim. Carl was 26 and Sophie was 27 years old. There were no children at that time.
In the census for 1900 they owned and farmed the Løken (gnr.54, bnr.8) farm in Askim. With them were two sons and three daughters all unmarried (Anton, Karl, Annette, Magna, Betzy), a young farmhand Paul Mathisen (born 1886 in Askim), and a fosterson Harald Løken (born 1897 in Askim).
