   Another name for Thorvald was Torvald Rikard Johannessen Løken.

  General Notes:

Thorvald was from nordre Løken (bnr. 3) in Askim.

In 1897 Thorvald Johannesen Løken bought the nedre Henstad farm in Askim for 11 000 kr. He farmed Henstad until 1937.

Thorvald ran a coach inn on Henstad until about 1910.

Four of his sons were officers in Norwegian Forces. One, Harald was general-lieutenant, and commander in chief of the norwegian army from 1966-1971. 6

The census for 1900 lists his year of birth as 1860.


Thorvald married Julie Hoel. (Julie Hoel was born in 1870 in Skiptvet, Østfold, Norway and died in 1950.)


  Marriage Notes:

In the census for 1900 they owned and farmed the Henstad (bnr. 2) farm in Askim. Thorvald was also called, "skydsskaffer". They had their two sons and three daughters with them: Johannes, Esther, Ragna, Mina, and Thorolf. Johannes was attending middle school.

There were also two servants and a construction worker living on the farm at that time.

They were living on Henstad in December 1906, in March 1914 and in July 1917. 7 8 9
