John Sigismund of Prussia Hohenzollern 1 2
Another name for John was Johann Sigismund Kurfürst von Brandenburg. General Notes: John or Johann Sigismund Hohenzollern succeeded his father Joachim Friedrich as margrave of Brandenburg and duke of Ducal Prussia in 1608. He became in addition duke of Cleve in 1614, holding all three titles until his death. His son and successor was Georg Wilhelm, born in 1595. Noted events in his life were: • Acceded: Elector of Brandenburg, 1608. • Acceded: Elector of Cleves, Mark and Ravensburg, 1614. • Acceded: Duke of Prussia, 1618. John married Anna of Prussia, daughter of Albrecht Friedrich of Preußen and Marie Eleonore von Kleve, on 30 Oct 1594 in Koenigsbuerg. (Anna of Prussia was born on 3 Jul 1576 and died on 9 Apr 1625.)
