Jon took over the Nord-Grøttvet farm in 1790 for 999 rdl.

Jon married Kirsti Halvorsdatter. (Kirsti Halvorsdatter was born circa 1757 and died in 1829.)

  Marriage Notes:

When their daughter Marthe was baptised they were recorded as John og Kirsti Haraldstad.

When their son Gunder was baptised they were recorded as John Arnesen og Kirsti N. Grotvedt.

When their daughter Anne was baptised they were recorded as John Arnesen og Kirsti N. Grotvedt.

In 1801 the family was on the Grotvedt Nordre farm in Askim. John was 47 and Kirsti was 43 years old. They were both in their first marriage. There were two daughters and a son at that time. ^{3 4 5}
