General Notes: Henry I of Brabant (also called Henri I de Brabant and Hendrik I van Brabant) was born in 1165 and died in the German city of Köln on September 5, 1235. He was Duke of Brabant (1190-1235) and Duke of Lorraine. He was the son of Godfrey III duke of Lorraine and count of Brabant and Margaret of Limburg. Noted events in his life were: • He was a Duke of Brabant from 1190 to 1235. • He was a Duke of Lorraine. Henry married Matilda of Boulogne, daughter of Matthew of Alsace and Marie of Boulogne, in 1179. (Matilda of Boulogne was born circa 1162 and died in 1210.) Henry next married Marie of France, daughter of Philip II Augustus of France Capet and Agnčs of Méranie, on 22 Apr 1213 in Soissons, France. (Marie of France was born in 1198 and died on 15 Oct 1224.) |
