When they married Hans Christian was 23¾ years old and from the Heller farm in Askim. Karen was 22½ and from the Laholmen farm. His father was Thorer Jensen and hers was Christian Enersen. The best men at their marriage were Hans and Poul nedre Ruud.

In 1865 they were living at the Bjølsen Teglværk in Vestre Aker, Akershus. He was listed as "Spigerværksarbeider". They had 3 daughters and a son with them at that time. 1 3
