Jaime I the Conqueror of Aragón 2
General Notes: Like his grandfather, ascended to the crown at the age of five. It was run by a regency until he came of age; and his uncle Sanc, Count of Provence, managed the finances and paid off his father's debts. He later became known for leading military campaigns that captured Majorca and the other Balearic islands, as well as Valencia, from the Moors. Noted events in his life were: • Acceded: King of Aragón, 1213. Jaime married Yolande of Hungary, daughter of Andrew II of Hungary and Yolande de Courtney, in 1235.1 (Yolande of Hungary died circa Oct 1251.) |
