One source identifies his mother as Agnes de Châtillon, the daughter of Reynold de Châtillon. His father, Bela III Arpád, married, firstly, Mary Comnena in 1164. He and Mary Comnena were divorced in 1168. He married, secondly, Agnes de Châtillon, daughter of Reynold de Châtillon, in 1168. He married, thirdly, Marguerite de France, Princesse de France, daughter of Louis VII, Roi de France and Constanza de Castilla.
