Other names for Charles were Charles le Bien-Servi, Charles le Victorieux and Charles the Well-Served. General Notes: King of France from 1422 to 1461, who succeeded --partly with the aid of Joan of Arc-- in driving the English from French soil and in solidifying the administration of the monarchy. Before ascending the throne he was known as the Dauphin and was regent for his father, Charles VI, from 1418. Noted events in his life were: • Acceded: King of France, 1422. Charles married Mary d' Anjou, daughter of Louis II of Anjou and Yolande of Aragon, on 18 Dec 1422. (Mary d' Anjou was born on 14 Oct 1404 and died on 29 Nov 1463.) Charles next married Agnes Sorel. |
