Louis X the Headstrong of France Capet 1 2 3
Other names for Louis were Louis X le Hutin and Louis X the Quarreller. General Notes: Louis X, called The Headstrong, king of France (1314-16), the son of Philip IV. Influenced by his uncle, Charles de Valois, he was preoccupied for much of his short reign with unrest among his nobles, to whom he granted charters confirming their privileges, and with an indecisive campaign against Flanders that he led in 1315. Louis's posthumous son, John I, born in 1316, died shortly after his birth, and the succession went to Louis's brother, Philip V. Noted events in his life were: • He was a Count of Champagne and King of Navarre from 1305 to 1316. • He was a King of France from 1314 to 1316. Louis married Marguerite of Burgundy, daughter of Robert II of Burgundy and Agnčs of France, on 23 Sep 1305 in Vernon-en-Normandie. (Marguerite of Burgundy was born in 1290 and died on 14 Aug 1315 in Chateau de Gaillard.) Marriage Notes: On September 21, 1305 Louis married Marguerite de Bourgogne (Burgundy) and they had a daughter, Jeanne (January 28, 1312 - October 6, 1349). Louis accused his wife of adultery and she was imprisoned and died in the chateau Gaillard. Louis next married Clemence d' Anjou, daughter of Charles Martel d' Anjou and Klementia von Hapsburg, on 13 Aug 1315. (Clemence d' Anjou was born circa 1293, died in 1328 in Paris, France and was buried in Saint Denis Basilica, near Paris, France.) |
