General Notes: Mary of Hungary (in Hungarian and Slovakian: Mária) was the second of three daughters of Louis I the Great of Hungary from the House of Angevin (Anjou). She was born around 1372. Her father had arranged that Sigismund of Luxembourg would marry one of his daughters (either Mary or Hedwig, who became Queen Jadwiga of Poland.) Noted events in her life were: • She was a Queen of Hungary. Mary married Sigismund of Bohemia, son of Charles IV of Bohemia and Elzbieta of Slupsk, in Oct 1385. (Sigismund of Bohemia was born on 14 Feb 1368 in Nuremberg and died on 9 Dec 1437.) Marriage Notes: Sigismund had no children by Mary of Hungary, but he had a single daughter with Barbara Celjska, Elizabeth (1409-1442). Elizabeth married Albert II, Holy Roman Emperor, who was eventually to succeed his father-in-law as King of Hungary and Bohemia, and as German King. |
