Another name for Béla was Bela III Arpád. General Notes: King of Hungary under whom Hungary became the leading power of south-central Europe. Noted events in his life were: Acceded: King of Hungary, 1173. Béla married Agnes de Chatillon, daughter of Raynald of Châtillon and Constance Guiscard, in 1172. (Agnes de Chatillon was born in 1154 and died in 1184.) Béla next married Margaret of France Capet, daughter of Louis VII the Younger of France Capet and Constance of Castile, in 1185.
