  General Notes:

Louis I was Count of Flanders, Nevers and Rethel. He succeeded his grandfather Robert III.

Louis married Marguerite of France, second daughter of Philip V of France and Jeanne II, Countess of Burgundy. Louis I relied on the aid of his father-in-law to put down the rebellion of Nikolaas Zannekin. Louis was killed in the Battle of Crécy.

He and Marguerite were parents to his succesor Louis II of Flanders. 3

Louis married Marguerite (Joan) of Artois Capet, daughter of Philip V the Tall of France Capet and Jeanne de Bourgogne. (Marguerite (Joan) of Artois Capet died in 1382.)
