Louise Marie Auguste Zähringen 1
General Notes: Louise Marie Auguste Zahringen, Princess of Baden (24 January 1779 - 4 May (O.S.) = 16 May (N.S.) 1826) daughter of Prince Charles Louis of Baden and Amalia of Hesse-Darmstadt. She was also the older sister of Frederica Dorothea Wilhelmina of Baden. She was thought of as a very beautiful woman, she loved magnificent jewellery and cloths. Louise married Alexander I Pavlovich Romanov, son of Paul I Petrovich Romanov and Maria Sophie Feodorovna von Württemberg, on 9 Oct 1793 in Winter Palace, St. Petersburg, Russia.1 (Alexander I Pavlovich Romanov was born on 23 Dec 1777 and died in 1825 in Taganrog, Russia.) Marriage Notes: The two children of their marriage, a little grand-duchess Elizaveta, died on 12 May 1808 and the other little grand-duchess Maria, that died six years earlier on 26 June (or 8 July) 1800; and their common sorrow drew husband and wife closer together. Towards the close of his life their reconciliation was completed by the wise charity of the Empress in sympathizing deeply with him over the death of his beloved daughter by Maria Naryshkina. |
