Another name for Louis was Louis I de Clermont. General Notes: Louis I of Bourbon, le Boiteux (1279 – January 29, 1342) was Count of Clermont, La Merche and Castres, and the first Duke of Bourbon. Louis was son of Robert, Count of Clermont and grandson of King Louis IX of France. His mother was Beatrice of Burgundy, heiress of Bourbon and grandaugther of Hugh IV, Duke of Burgundy. In 1310, Louis married Mary of Avesnes, daughter of John II of Avesnes, Count of Hainaut and Holland. 3 Noted events in his life were: • Acceded: Duke of Bourbonnais, 1310. • He was a Lord of Bourbon. Louis married Marie de Hainault, daughter of John II of Avesnes and Philippa de Luxembourg, circa Sep 1310 in Pontoise, France. (Marie de Hainault died circa Aug 1354 in Chateau de Murat.) |
