Johannes farmed the Årnes (u. Nord-Skjørten) farm in Askim from the mid 1840's until the end of the 1860's. In 1869 he moved to the Busterud u. Tømmerås farm and was there until 1874. Earlier the family was on Jaeren, Veiby, and Onstadplass. They were on Skjørten when they married.

Johannes married Anne Sofie Hansdatter. (Anne Sofie Hansdatter was born on 13 Jun 1813 in Kjeserudplass, Eidsberg, Østfold, Norway, died on 22 Feb 1873 in Tømmeråsplads, Askim, Østfold, Norway and was buried on 4 Mar 1873.)

They were on Skjørten when they married. They lived on Jaeren when they had their first child.

In 1841 Johannes and Anne Sofie were cottagers on the Veiby u. Moen farm in Askim. Later they were cottagers on Onstadplass.
